Frontier Co-op® Organic Cut and Sifted Comfrey Leaf is Symphytum officinale, a member of the Borage family. Comfrey leaf has been used for thousands of years. The plant is native to Europe and Asia and has been widely cultivated. Comfrey has large, rough leaves with tiny surface hairs, making them hard to dry quickly without spoiling.
Allantoin, a constituent in comfrey, makes the leaves a useful emollient in lotions, creams, salves and hair rinses. Comfrey has a mild, cucumber-like scent, with bitter undertones. It is not recommended for consumption. The plant's high phytonutrient content makes it a great addition to soil for flowers, trees, and shrubs whether used directly or as a liquid comfrey compost (LCC).
