This herbaceous plant produces yellow flowers and slender leaves, can grow up to 16 inches tall. Blue tansy is also known as Moroccan blue chamomile or by its botanical name Tanacetum annuum. It is during the distillation process that chamazulene, a chemical component, is released. This chemical, when heated, gives the oil its blue hue. Blue Tansy is native to European and Asian regions with a temperate climate. In ancient times, the Greeks, Egyptians and other cultures in the Mediterranean may have used blue tansy in perfumes and in natural remedy.
